John

One of the most confusing things about the Bible are people's names.  It would be so much easier if they had last names or something else to distinguish one from another.  I wish that every time someone talked about John the Baptist they would make sure to include "the Baptist" in the title.  I get confused with the Johns.

The Gospel of John, like Mark, skips the birth of Christ.  It begins with Jesus's baptism by John the Baptist.  I found it interesting that John tells us that Jesus, or The Word, is with God in the beginning.  I don't think about Jesus even existing before his earthly birth, but for him to be part of the trinity, he would have to have existed all along.

I also read Exodus 22 today.  It continues outlining the rules and laws for the people of Moses.  This passage offers protection to those who have wrong done to them and for widows and orphans.  It makes me wonder which of these we are expected to live by today.  Most of these fit our laws, but we don't put people to death as quickly or freely as they did then.  It just makes me think about how applicable the laws of those days are today.
