Obedience

One of the biggest struggles we have as parents is teaching Devon to obey us. When he is tired or hungry, he can be extremely difficult to deal with. It is frustrating to try to show him that he must obey our commands whether he wants to or not.

This is difficult with God, too. The Israelites grumbled and complained about having to fight to get into the Promised Land. They wanted to return to Egypt instead. God punished them by saying that no Israelite over the age of 20 would see the Promised Land, except Caleb and Joshua. When they refused his punishment and went toward the Promised Land anyway, the enemy armies drove them back.

As much as we don't want to admit it, if we do not obey God, we are punished! God's will WILL be done! If we buck the system, he will find a way to make us obey. He is a loving God, but he will not put up with disobedience from us.
